Hacienda Ana Coffee Estate
This property, surrounded by the Jauca River which reaches the city of Jayuya, was part of the Serralles Succession. In 1987, Mr. Felipe Ozonas purchased 320 acres and named it "Hacienda Jauca". Mr. Ozonas, known as Don Felipe, converted this acreage to one of the largest coffee plantations in Puerto Rico. In the last few years the plantation also successfully grew beautiful tangerine plants which yielded a harvest of 250,000 last year.

On June 10, 2005 a group of young entrepreneurs acquired the property and renamed it "Hacienda Ana Coffee Estate. The plantation is constantly maintained with trail renovations such as the grooming of plants, cleanliness of the Hacienda grounds, and the addition of new plants as needed. These activities have created many local job opportunities. Today the plantation produces 20,000 "almudes" (28 pound baskets) of coffee which are hand picked as the coffee cherries become are fully ripe.
Recently, Hacienda Ana established a program in cooperation with the Department of Agriculture and the Department of Labor and Human Resources called "Obreros al Cafetal", translated as "workers at the coffee plantation". This program brings more than 80 coffee pickers from nearby towns during the coffee harvest season which runs from September through February.
Hacienda Ana was declared an Auxiliary Forest by the Department of Natural Resources because of its conservation and reforestation efforts that are constantly carried out at the coffee plantation. Furthermore, the estate has been certified by the Fish and Wildlife Agency in a joint effort to improve the general conditions of the plantation while helping the local wildlife by planting specific trees in a particular pattern that provides shade to the coffee plants and shelter to endemic and migratory birds.
